What is a Fitted Line Plot and how to create one in Minitab

Search

A fitted line plot is a graph that shows the relationship between two variables by plotting data points on a Cartesian coordinate system and then connecting those points with a line. This type of plot is often used to visualize trends in data sets. This post will show you how to create a fitted line plot in Minitab.

What is a Fitted Line Plot?

A fitted line plot is a graph that shows the relationship between two variables by plotting data points on a Cartesian coordinate system and then connecting those points with a line. This type of plot is often used to visualize trends in data sets.

There are two ways to create a fitted line plot in Minitab: using the Graphical Analysis tool or the Stat > Regression > Fit Line Plot command.

Let’s look at how to create a fitted line plot using both methods.

Creating a Fitted Line Plot Using the Graphical Analysis Tool

The first way to create a fitted line plot is by using the Graphical Analysis tool. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Select the data that you want to plot.

2. Click the “Graph” tab at the top of the window, then click “Graphical Analysis.”

3. In the “Select Type of Graph” window that appears, select “Fitted Line Plot” and click “OK.”

4. In the “Fitted Line Plot” window that appears select the variables that you want to include in the plot from the “X Variable” and “Y Variable” drop-down menus. Then, click “OK.”

5. Your finished plot will appear in a new window. You can edit the appearance of your plot by clicking on the “Edit” button at the top of the window.

Creating a Fitted Line Plot Using the Stat > Regression > Fit Line Plot Command

The second way to create a fitted line plot is using the Stat > Regression > Fit Line Plot command. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Select the data that you want to plot.

2. Click the “Stat” tab at the top of the window, then click “Regression,” and finally click “Fit Line Plot.”

3. In the “Fit Line Plot” window that appears select the variables that you want to include in the plot from the “X Variable” and “Y Variable” drop-down menus. Then, click “OK.” 4. Your finished plot will appear in a new window.

Conclusion:

As you can see, creating fitted line plots in Minitab is easy! Whether you use the Graphical Analysis tool or Stat > Regression > Fit Line Plot command, you’ll be able to create high-quality plots that visualise trends in your data set clearly and effectively communicate your findings to others.
